My Philosophy

Children are very intuitive.  They sense when their buddies are having an easier time of it at school then they are.  They also know after spending time with me, I am here to help.

I design lessons that move reading skills forward at a pace that is guided by the student’s needs.  I believe in a prescriptive approach to teaching that allows me to focus on issues as they arise instead of following a strict generic lesson plan or system.  By letting lessons unfold naturally, I am able to ascertain what a student knows and where the holes might be in his or her learning and choose activities accordingly.  Lessons are sequential and follow a routine based on the Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory approach.

Each child is unique and deserves an individualized lesson that builds confidence and moves them along the literacy continuum. This philosophy fosters confidence and a love of learning.

About Me Personally

When not reading with students, you will find me enjoying time with my husband, Jim and our golden retriever, Red E.  We love to travel to all sorts of pristine places in the United States and Canada, especially when it includes seeing our daughter, Emma.  I like to play Scrabble, hike, kayak and of course, I love to read the latest bestseller!
